Funding the next generation

Backing the people who will solve this.

ERA funds a small number of research grants and student scholarships each year, awarded together with partner universities and built around real mentorship — not just a transfer of money.

What we fund

Two tracks, one standard.

Both tracks are awarded in collaboration with partner universities, so every project is academically grounded and practically useful to the vineyards we serve.

Track — Research grants

For researchers

Grants for scientific projects on viticulture under climate change — run with a partner university, with findings shared back to growers as practical recommendations.

Track — Scholarships

For students

Scholarships for students and young researchers entering viticulture and climate science — paired with mentorship and, where possible, a placement in the ERA vineyard network.

Disciplines

The fields we support.

We welcome projects across the disciplines that determine whether a vineyard adapts or fails.

Viticulture

Growing practices and vineyard management for changing conditions.

Climate science

Modeling climate impact and risk for wine regions.

Soil science

Soil composition, resilience and vineyard suitability.

Enology

The science of winemaking and grape quality.

How it works

A deliberately small programme.

In its first phase ERA funds one to two awards per year. Keeping the programme small is a choice — it protects the quality of mentorship and the strength of our university relationships.

We would rather support a few projects well than many thinly.

  • 01Apply through ERA with your research question or area of study.
  • 02Review carried out together with a partner university.
  • 03Award, with a named mentor and access to the ERA network.
  • 04Share findings — results return to growers as practical guidance.
First phase. Applications open alongside our first programmes in 2026 — register your interest now and we will be in touch when the call goes live.

Internships

Learning where the work is actually done.

ERA places students and young professionals in working vineyards, in collaboration with our winery network — so the next generation learns adaptation where it happens.

Hands-on work

Alongside growers through the vineyard cycle.

Adaptation in practice

Exposure to climate-adaptation techniques used in the field.

Mentorship

From experienced winemakers in the ERA network.

Network

A first professional network across wine regions.

In partnership. Internships run with the ERA winery network; applications open with our first activities in 2026.
